Mike Silver in Concert

Introducing Mike Silver Songwriter ● Guitarist ● Singer ● Entertainer

The craft of song writing is not honed overnight. Mike has over 40 years of experience as a writer, singer, guitarist and live performer and has been enjoying a quiet success story throughout the UK and in various territories around the world; his songs give expression to authentic human emotions without becoming sentimental.

Signed to Elton John’s Rocket Records in 1973, Silver toured the USA supporting Dory Previn, and Ashford and Simpson. His work as a studio musician and backing vocalist with Charles Aznavour, Chris de Burgh, Ralph McTell, Ray Thomas (Moody Blues) and many more is well documented.

His ability to write and perform songs, which transcend many guitar and musical styles, was recognised by Justin Hayward who recorded Mike’s song, “Maybe It’s Just Love” on his solo album Night Flight.

Even after many years travelling, singing and playing Mike is still fascinated by music, to him it is a never ending voyage of discovery; “Being able to play music is like having my birthday every day. The size of the audience is irrelevant, 1000 people, 100 or 10 it’s still the same, it’s an exchange of emotions: occasionally, there is that frisson that ripples through them in the very few seconds between the end of the song and the beginning of their applause: it’s like an earthquake in your heart”.

After seeing and hearing Mike perform for the first time one fan, among so many who have written in said, “I will never forget that evening at Hitchin. I didn't expect to find heaven in The Sun Hotel”. Variously reminiscent of James Taylor, Phil Collins and even Sting, Silver matches the talent of his better known peers; his beautifully restrained delivery is especially noteworthy.

Silver always produces the goods, something that will come as no surprise to his loyal fans. Mike’s 16th release How Many Rivers, brings the number of albums to 16. “...Rivers” is yet another collection of finely crafted songs

Support Hissyfit

Hissyfit are a close harmony duo based in Beverley in East Yorkshire. Hazel is originally from Scotland and Linda from the Midlands. They began singing together to take advantage of their joint love of traditional folk music and Hazel brought harmonies to the songs that Linda had begun to write. These were inspired by her interest in the demise of the East Coast fishing industry and the people of Hull. They began singing in folk clubs across the North of England and eventually began performing at Maritime Festivals and Folk Festivals. They have appeared in this country at Warwick Saddleworth, Cleckheaton and Holmfirth Beverley festivals as well as Hull Sea Fever. They have performed with other artistes such as John Conolly, The Younguns, Dave & Julie Evardson and Grace Notes.

They can currently be seen making the occasional collaboration with David Swann a singer songwriter from North Yorkshire. Now their repertoire extends beyond Linda’s own songs and they have both contemporary and traditional songs in their repertoire all sung with their unique blend of voices.

Pete Morton in Concert

Folk singer Pete Morton is a songwriter and performer with a wealth of great songs and stage presence. His shows are dynamic and intense, while remaining approachable and fun loving. With well known songs such as 'Another Train', 'The Shepherds Song', and 'The Two Brothers', he constantly tours, either solo, performing his own material as well as with other projects, such as his one man theatre show, 'The Millers Tale with the songs of Bob Dylan', or his annual December Christmas show with Maggie Boyle and Chris Parkinson. In 2012, he began a traditional folk music project with Roger Wilson called 'The Dustpan and Brush traditional folk music show'. There is also his recent venture into 'Folk Rap', marrying choruses from the tradition and verses full of contemporary issues, that are delivered with 'knitting machine' speed. They have proven to be a great hit! He will also be touring new material with a trio in the Lowlands in the Spring of 2014 to co-incide with the release of a new album. His highly acclaimed last album 'Economy', was released in 2011, and included the fabulous rant: 'The Sock on the Line', the much loved 'India', the anthemic 'When we Sing Together' and the 9 minute talkin' blues 'In the days when time was different'. A new album of Pete's songs is due for release in 2013. Starting out as a busker on the streets of Europe, he has entertained all over the globe with his unique and involving style of song-writing and singing. Pete sings from the heart, delivering songs that tell compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a very unique perspective. With a passionate, strong voice and strident guitar style, traditional songs often rub shoulders with Pete's current writing with remarkable ease. His songs are an unruly mix of humour, politics, love and social comment, wrapping their way around the folk tradition.

I am retiring from organising Faldingworth live at December 31st 2013 due to health issues. May I thank everybody that has supported me (artists, helpers and audience). It has been a great pleasure to see Faldingworth Live mushroom into one of the nicest Folk Concert Hall's around. I have met and made many friends through doing it and hope that we will remain friends. Thank you. Les Worrall
